I don't know about you but I have this tendency to wobble my head when I speak with my Indian friends.
I : So you're bringing curry chicken for potluck.
Friend : Yes (wobble his head)
I : Good (wobble my head)
Even on the phone, when my friends can't see me, I go wobbling.
I : Can you please give me M's phone no.
Friend : Sorry I don't have it. (probably wobbled her head)
I : You don't have it? It's allright. (wobble)

How to motivate a 9 year old to do homework?
Threaten - if you don't do, no sweets, no tv, no computer game.
Reward - if you do, I'll give you a Pokemon card, ice cream, sticker for you to exchange gifts for.
Scare - if you don't do, your teacher will beat you and make you stand outside the class.
If all else fails, do the homework for him.
Seriously though, no. 2 is the best option. Give stickers or points for him to accumulate and exchange for gifts. I use no. 3 too, easy, in Chinese schools.
