Know your Rights

I got this in the email from Jennifer.

I was talking with a lawyer friend of mine. We were discussing the law and woman's rights. She told me about this incident - a young girl was raped by a man posing as a plain clothes officer; he asked her to come to the police station when she and her male friend didn't have a driver`s license to show. He sent the boy off to get his license and asked the girl to accompany him to the police station. Took her instead to an isolated area where the horrendous crime was committed.

In fact, the law clearly states that between 6 pm and 6am, a woman has the right to REFUSE to go to the Police Station, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her. It is a procedural issue that a woman can't be arrested between 6pm and 6 am , ONLY if she is arrested by a woman officer and taken to an ALL WOMEN police station. And if she is arrested by a male officer, it has to be proven that a woman officer was on duty at the time of arrest.

Can anyone confirm if this is true? Thanks.

whether this is true or not...the person who are requested to do anything which may lead to any danger can ask for ID card. treat anybody as a stranger eventhough this person claims as police officer. you would not like anything bad happen to you. the best way is ask somebode to escort you.if you are alone, contact your friends or relatives to help you.normally if you are requested to show your driving licence and you fail to do so, the officer will give you summons rather letting you out of there.

i agree with anon. get someone to escort - that is yr rights as well. But i think we have this thing abt uniform - they are not necessary who ther are.

Wow, see? And I thought I was big-shot lawyer, eh? Don't even know that. Does that mean that women can drunk drive and then not get arrested, hit a tree and drive without license between 6-6? Wow, didn't know that.

IN that case....hhhmmmm.....

:-)
