The Hem & Haw Writers' Club

Note :

I've moved this entry into a separate category in the sidebar in case "members" want to continue their hemming & hawing or share their triumph of getting into the writing groove. At a later time, when response is no longer forthcoming, I shall just let it languish under the Reading & 'Riting category.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the earlier posting on This is it, membership is now open for The Hem & Haw Writers' Club.

Mission : To encourage writers not to hem and haw (I know it's a paradox but it's a good paradox.)

Who is qualified to join : Anyone who has ever hemmed and hawed in their writing.

Definition of hem and haw : Be hesitant and indecisive; avoid committing oneself (dictionary.com) If you've made ten trips to the kitchen to make twenty cups of coffee, straightened your desk for the eleventh time and googled your name for the thirteen time in the last two hours before you finally type your first paragraph, you are a hemmer and hawer.

What is it all about - Members will post their various H&H techniques so that they know they're all afflicted with the same malady. More importantly, they will also update their writing progress so that other H&Hers will get so jealous they will also be motivated to JUST DO IT.

How to do - Via blog with various moderators?

Is this a silly idea or what?

Dear Lydia,
Please consider these:
*while staring at empty page, I made a cup of coffee, heat up the pancakes, eat and came back to empty page.
*I looked for nail clipper
*Googled for someuseless info totally unrelated to toic am writing about
*chat
*back to page - still empty (where are the elves?)
*heated up another two pieces of pancakes
*another cup of cofee
*wrote on page: things to do/buy today
*oh - phone call!

Afflicted with the same malady? HAHAHA. This is funny! And we can confer a H&H Award to the person most afflicted with this contagious illness whereby his/her chances of recovering are by far, the slimmest! Forgive me, my blog is down, but I still need a place to merepek while it is getting "fixed".

Kak Teh, For you 5 stars (maximum under the H&H rating, 1 being the least hem & hawing).

Doreen, I was just posting my comment to Kak Teh when yours came. The star rating ok or not? You're most welcomed to merepek here.

Queen, good. You've just been promoted from what, 4* to 0*. Keep it up.

Lydia Teh said...

Jane, you're qualified all right. 4 or 5 stars? Queen already write one long entry for her blog. Got to go and knock out something coherent.

This sounds like me! I haven't done a thing all day but plenty of messing around on the 'puter and a snooze to recover from the exhaustion.

Sharon, We should all have a device on our computers that beep wildly when we surf the internet or go on a blogging rampage.

no, i think it's a good idea.

hahha i think i hemmed and hawed (yee haww'ed is most likely, lol) a lot mostly about how can i get it to be publish and wheter it is that good to be publish.

regarding the idea of making blog with various moderators, i have a good news for you.

what you said, idea have been done at the blog hosting i'm at -modblog.com - because there, we have a feature that make it possible to start a blog and turn it into a group blog.and the group blog could invite members or anyone could apply to be a member (i think it might be retricted to anyone within the blog hosting i'm afraid)

now there's a lot of group blogs covering many topics and interest
the group blog for writers in modblog is located as below:

1. http://writers.modblog.com

a group blog that allows members to post whatever type of writing (poem, short stories, long stories) with unlimited words count

2.http://writable.modblog.com/

A group blog where the stories/poem is written according to themes nominated by the members or the moderators. but this group blog all piece are restricted by maximum of 500 words only

interesting ideas eh? the outcome of it is exactly like you said, it make everyone feel envy when they can't submit in time the theme changes.

Pizzofmine, thanks for the suggestion. Must see if other H&H writers are keen or not :) Funny I was just thinking of the same "yee haww" thingy.

Hi Ailin, I've got the bills to pay and the filing to sort out, (note : not filed, only sorted out)..

hmmm..... this hem & haw thingy, do you think it has anything to do with a procrastinating behaviour, or is it mainly an excuse for writer's block?

Lydia Teh said...

Queen, I think it's BOTH. Some people don't believe in Writer's Block. It's just an excuse, they say, a very convenient one.
