To switch or not to switch,

that is the question.

While blog-surfing, I came across some nifty blogs hosted by Wordpress/Blogsome. They're also free. The coolest feature I like about Wordpress is that they can organize entries according to categories.

Blogger can't do that. To get around the problem, I have to create the categories using a New Post entry. Each time I make a posting, I must go back to the relevant category and insert a link to the latest posting. In Wordpress, all you have to do is to create the categories and when posting, you just have to tick the relevant box. So easy. But that's about the only thing that is simple about Wordpress.

I give the thumbs-up to Blogger for its user-friendliness. Its Help function is easy to use. Posting entries and loading images can be done quickly and easily. With Wordpress, it seems to take a longer time. Maybe it just needs some getting used to.

I've created a test site here. Still hesitating whether to make the switch. Thanks to Lydia Teh from Singapore who helped me get this started. She's all for Wordpress. I'm still trying to figure out how things work.

Anyone has any suggestions or comments on this?

Lydia, that looks really neat! Bt I dont think i will change over to anything new. I tend to stick to old ones, old routine..like the avatar I used...I have had that for years that it has become me.

So, are u changing?

I am a technophobe and lazy with it. I'll stick with Blogger. But not being able to categorise entries is so annoying, especially when you've a lot of them and readers can't find their way back to stuff that might interest them. I'm thinking of manually creating an index: is this just an excuse to waste more time online when deadlines aren't being met and the house grows ever more chaotic? The blog swallows hours of my time anyway. (But I love it!)

Kak Teh, you mean the avatar as in the orange-hair young lady in place of your pix? That's very cute. When I think of transferring all my entries over, malas lah. Maybe I'll start anew. Still mulling it over.

Sharon, My sentiments exactly as to readers not finding their way around, and spending too much time on blogging! If you want to create the index manually using Blogger, you'd better start soon before the entries pile up even more. I so much prefer Blogger, if only they'd put in the category feature. Still undecided as Wordpress is a tad slow and quite difficult to use for this html-challenged blogger.

WP is horrendeously vulnerable to spam when they "target" you... or at least, the (older) version I'm on is.

Apart from that, the category function and choice of skins is pretty attractive.

Thanks Aria. After going through the Blogsome forum, I think maybe I'll just stick with Blogger. Found out that you can't view your uploaded image files as they removed the feature for security reasons. Maybe I'll use Blogsome if I start another blog where I won't be posting any images/pix. Are you a colleague of the V with the afro?

Lydia - Definitely move! I am all for Wordpress. Better still, get your own domain? But blogsome is a lot more fun to play around with than blogger.

5xmom, you've just made the score 2-2. (still scratching head). Can ask you for help or not if I get stumped with wordpress?

I've not met the Afro although I do read his blog. I'm from the other side of the country and haven't been to KL in a while.

I second the suggestion of getting your own domain name if you can afford it. If spam does become a problem... well, moderate. Blogger isn't exactly immune to it anymore either. WP isn't that hard to get around once you poke around some.

Aria, With the word verification feature from Blogger, it's bye-bye spam.

hie.. i have blogs from both blogsome & blogger. Initially started with blogger but recently tried out blogsome. Blogger, is more user friendly and can upload pics. Blogsome has nicer template, able to categorize. As for picture uploading, can try to use other image hosting site. I'm bad at html, so, still a little hard on going around in blogsome. :)

Nite, same boat as you. But I decided to stick with Blogger, cos Blogsome is going to cost me more "downtime".
