Little Gems #3 : Grass Rice

No. 3 : Mummy, what is chao fan?
I : What is fan?
No. 3 : Rice.
I : What is chao?
No. 3 : Grass.
I : Grass rice? No! It's fried!
No. 3 : Oh, fried rice.

The hanyu pinyin for fried and grass is almost the same. Fried is chao, grass is cao. But both sound the same.

Kak Teh, (grinning from ear-to-ear). This is a popular one :
A : Give me the Vo Gue magazine.
B : It's pronounced Vog, not Vo Gue. The gue is silent.
Later,
A : Don't arg with me.
B : Huh? It's argue, not ark.
A : I thought you say the gue is silent?

Nadia, Glad you like our anecdotes. Will post more as and when the kids spew more nuggets.

Kak Teh, Anyone can be related in cyberspace. Nadia already said I remind her of her mum (aiyo, make me feel so old). Did you tell your kids your blood wasn't spilled either?

You Ro Gue, don't lick the Fond (fondue) with your Ton Gue! Es (guess) what? I have been delivering this Monolo Gue from The Ha Gue to Pra Gue, your head in a Fu Gue ahhh? Must be too much dancing that Mereng/Mereng Mue (merengue = "mereng gay"). My Ton Gue is Fati Gue already. Now don't Arg (argue)with me or no Mering Gue (meringue) for you later! And cover up, afterwards mosqto (mosquito) bite you, you get Den Gue! (Dengue = denggi??? go figure!)
